Fedor's thrilling knockout victory over Bret Rogers viewed by over 25 million homes.
(PRESS RELEASE) M-1 Global and Strikeforce announced today that the international audience reports from broadcasters all over the world revealed an unprecedented number of viewers for the November 7th "Fedor vs. Rogers" MMA event from Chicago, Illinois.
"We are extremely happy with the preliminary broadcast reports," said M-1 Global CEO Joost Raimond. "The demographics of these numbers were very promising as our network broadcasting partners in the U.S., Russia, and Korea reach an enormous audience alone.
Coupled with a dozen other countries and our successful internet stream in Japan and other territories, all early accounts and indications tell us that "Fedor vs. Rogers" delivered worldwide more than any other MMA show in the history of the sport," concluded Raimond.
Scott Coker, founder and owner of Strikeforce and experienced MMA promoter responded "We are thrilled with the tremendous viewership figures that the Fedor vs Rogers event generated overseas. The results clearly demonstrate the appreciation that fans worldwide have for a number of M-1 Global and Strikeforce mixed martial arts superstars including the number one fighter on the planet - Fedor Emelianenko - and his opponent Brett Rogers."
In total, over 25 million MMA fans all around the world were treated to a vintage performance from the world's greatest MMA fighter, Fedor Emelianenko. The main event of Fedor vs Rogers reached an impressive 5.46 million viewers in the United States on the CBS Network. The fight was also broadcast in Fedor's native Russia by "Channel 1," Russia's largest television network, and reached 16 million viewers in Fedor's home country.
In addition, "Fedor vs. Rogers" was broadcast to millions of viewers in Korea on SBS, one of the 3 major national South Korean networks, as well as television networks in China, Latin America, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Ukraine, Finland, Africa, Turkey, Israel, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Malta.
Live internet streams of the "Fedor vs. Rogers" bout generated ground-breaking viewer numbers in Japan and all over the world and these numbers continue to grow through Video on Demand.
'"CBS was proud to be the U.S. broadcaster in a fight seen by millions domestically and by millions more around the world," commented CBS Senior Executive Vice President Kelly Kahl. Junie Browning gets submission victory at MMA Big Show - has a special message for the ladies #mma #ufc #tuf #mmabigshow http://ping.fm/sNU1h
[Blog] Junie Browning gets submission victory at MMA Big Show - has a special message for the lad...: [caption id="attachment_31528" align="alignleft" width="184" caption="Junie still the bad boy."][/caption]
ProMMA.info provided a live play by play of Saturday night's "MMA Big Show: Onslaught" which took place in Florence, Ind., and was headlined by none other than The Ultimate Fighter veteran Junie "The Lunatik" Browning taking on Taekwondo black belt Scott Cornwell.
Despite his troubles outside the cage, Browning proved he still had skills that surpass your average Taekwondo black belt by dropping Cornwell to the mat with his very first punch. Junie quickly pounced on his opponent, and at one point tried to put him in a gogoplata. He actually got pretty close, but ended up settling for a trusty triangle submission.
Browning controlled the entire 3:13 fight and was never in any danger. Following the bout, the microphone was handed to Cornwell who was apologetic and genuinely displeased with his performance. The crowd applauded Cornwell's effort, in what was only his second professional bout.
Then the microphone was handed to Junie and the arena filled with boos. Junie said, "I try to come out here and put on a show. If you don't like it, then fuck ya'll!" This actually brought out a few cheers. Then Junie had a special message for the ladies. He said, “LADIES, AFTER THIS I WANT TWO LINES, ONE FOR SUCKING, AND ONE FOR FUCKING.” He drops the mic to the ground and walks out of the cage. The boos are deafening.
If there was ever any question, it is now quite obvious Browning has no intention of relinquishing his "bad boy" image. It is something he has been working on for years, and he wears it like an old coat. Yes, it has cost him quite a bit, such as his job in the UFC and legal troubles. However, it continues to bring him that which he desires most - attention.

Wand Fight Team: Wanderlei Silva talks UFC 110 bout with Bisping and Mike Whitehead discusses upcoming bout with King Mo #mma #ufc #strikeforce http://ping.fm/KMunP
[Blog] Wand Fight Team: Wanderlei Silva talks UFC 110 bout with Bisping and Mike Whitehead discusses upcoming bout with King...: Wanderlei Silva talks about his upcoming fight with Michael Bisping, scheduled for Feb. 21, at UFC 110 in Sydney, Australia. Silva wants to "kick his ass" and realizes it is a very important fight. Silva has lost five of his last six fights (all against top tier opponents) and desperately needs the victory. If he were to lose to Bisping, it is hard to say how much marketability the MMA legend would have left.
In the second half of this video, Team Wand fighter, Mike Whitehead, talks about his upcoming Strikeforce bout with "King Mo" Muhammed Lawal on Dec. 19. The TUF 2 veteran sees Mo as a fast rising legit opponent with a name who wants to use Whitehead as a stepping stone. He says Mo must be "half retarded" if he thinks he can disrespect Whitehead's mother by beating him on her birthday (Dec. 19).
Whitehead also shares his thoughts on the benefits of training with a legend like Wanderlei Silva day-in and day-out. Apparently, sparring with Wanderlei is much like being in a real fight. [Blog] Elvis Sinosic gets opportunity to settle the score in rematch with Chris Haseman at UFC 110 in Austra...: [caption id="" align="alignright" width="280" caption="Elvis Sinosic returns to the Octagon at UFC 110."][/caption]
"The King of Rock and Rumble" Elvis Sinosic (8-11-2) is scheduled to return to the Octagon on Feb. 21 to face fellow Aussie Chris "The Hammer" Haseman (20-16-0) in a rematch at UFC 110 at Acer Arena is Sydney, Australia. It will be the Ultimate Fighting Championship's first foray into "The Land Down Under."
The match-up, announced by the Brisbane Times on Thursday, will give Sinosic the opportunity to settle a score that goes all the way back to 1997 when the two first fought at "Caged Combat 1: Australian Ultimate Fighting" (you would get sued for that name today). Haseman won via first round submission. The technique he used? Fight Finder states: "chin to the eye."
Sinosic's first fight in the UFC took place just after the Zuffa takeover, at UFC 30, in 2001. He fought Jeremy Horn and submitted him with a triangle armbar. Unfortunately, even though Sinosic fought six more times for the UFC, that was his only win inside the Octagon.
Sinosic has not competed professionally since 2007, but he made it clear to us at ProMMA.info in an interview last November that he was not retired. He had some fights fall through, and he has been running his academy, Sinosic Perosh Martial Arts.
[caption id="attachment_31478" align="alignright" width="200" caption="Fedor vs. Haseman in Japan 2002."][/caption]
Haseman is also a UFC veteran, having fought Evan Tanner at UFC 38 in July 2002. Haseman went the distance with Tanner, but ended up losing a unanimous decision. Remaining relatively inactive, Haseman has only fought four times since.
In Feb. 2002, Haseman had the unique privilege of getting knocked out by the man himself, Fedor Emelianenko, in the first round of the "Rings: World Title Series Grand Final" main event in Tokyo, Japan (see fight video). Just four months later, Fedor made his Pride debut against Semmy Schilt at Pride 21.
Haseman last fought in Nov. 2008 at Fight World Cup's "FWC 1: Return of the Hammer." Haseman ended up knocking out Yuji Hisamatsu in 18 seconds in the main event attraction.
Other fights scheduled for UFC 110 include Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva, Dong Hyun Kim vs. Chris Lytle, Mirko Cro Cop vs. Ben Rothwell, and a main event between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasq... http://promma.info/index.php/2009/11/28/elvis-sinosic-gets-opportunity-to-settle-the-score-in-rematch-with-chris-haseman-at-ufc-110-in-australia/

[Blog] Jeff Curran returns to action against Tomohiko Hori on Dec. 5 at "XFO 34: Worlds Colli...: [caption id="attachment_31371" align="alignleft" width="186" caption="XFO: Worlds Collide - Dec. 5"][/caption]
"The Big Frog" Jeff Curran's Xtreme Fighting Organization (XFO) presents "XFO 34: World's Collide" on Dec. 5 at the Lakemoor Banquet Facility in Lakemoor, Ill.
The main event features current Strikeforce fighter* Jeff Curran (30-12-1), taking on Japanese star Tomohiko Hori (10-7-5) in a bantamweight showdown. The fight will be Curran's second in under a month. On Nov. 7, he defeated Dustin Neace via submission at "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers."
The win was a big deal for Curran, who was coming off a four straight losses in the WEC prior to his win over Neace. Now back on track, Curran does not want to waste any time in keeping the momentum going.
Tomohiko Hori is a training partner of one of Curran's toughest opponents to date, WEC bantamweight title contender Takeya Mizugaki. Curran lost a split decision to Mizugaki at WEC 42 back in August.
Although Hori won the DEEP 135-pound tournament earlier this year, he is coming into his fight with Curran on the heels of two decision losses. He lost a decision to Masakazu Imanari at DEEP 43 back in August, and lost to Sami Aziz at Sweden's Superior Challenge back in May. Prior to that, he had gone 7-1-1 in his previous nine bouts.
Hori knows Curran's greatest strength is on the ground and commented on the match-up:
"My impression of Jeff Curran is, he is very strong on the ground. I have to be very careful of his submission, especially a triangle. I accepted this opportunity to fight Curran because he is one of the top fighters at this weight class, and also, I always wanted to fight in America. And I am happy and pumped up that this is the headliner of the show. I know striking is the strongest part of my game, so this is going to be a hard fight with me winning at the end with a knockout."
In addition to the Curran vs. Hori headliner, "WORLDS COLLIDE" will also feature more than a dozen bouts showcasing some of the top MMA prospects in the Midwest. Additional fights are being added, and the full fight card will be released shortly.
Tickets for the event are on sale now for $100-VIP ringside, $75-ringside, $60-table seating, and $35-general admission, and are available at Curran Martial Arts, located at 221 Liberty Road, Crystal Lake, IL, 60014, or by calling (815) 356-0454. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the fights will begin at 7:30 PM. Please visit www.xfomma.com for more information.
*Although under contract with Strikeforce, Jeff Curran has a non-exclusive deal that allows him to take certain agreed upon bouts outside the Strikeforce promotion.

Thomson, who captured the lightweight championship by earning a five round, unanimous decision over Melendez in the main event at HP Pavilion on June 27, 2008, has not seen action since September 20, 2008 when it took him a mere 1 minute and 14 seconds to demolish Ashe "The Archer" Bowman during STRIKEFORCE's second event at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Shortly after undergoing surgery for a broken fibula in his left ankle earlier this year, Thomson sustained a break in the bone located above the original injury. He suffered yet another setback after the bone broke a second time.
"Everything feels great now. Nothing is going to keep me out of this fight," said the 31-year-old Thomson of San Jose. "I'm looking forward to getting back in there and going to work."
While Thomson was sidelined, the 27-year-old Melendez of Santa Ana, California remained busy in 2009, scoring a second round (2:02) knockout on Brazil's Rodrigo Damm at STRIKEFORCE: Shamrock vs. Diaz on April 11, 2009 and avenging the first defeat of his career by punching his way to a third round (3:56) TKO of Mitsuhiro "The Endless Fighter" Ishida at STRIKEFORCE: Carano vs. Cyborg on August 15, 2009. Both bouts took place at HP Pavilion.
His brilliant performance against Ishida, whom he had lost a unanimous decision to in Saitama, Japan on December 31, 2007, returned Melendez to the top-10 rankings in MMA's lightweight division.
"I've been training for this fight for a long time now and have been thinking about it ever since Josh beat me last year," said Melendez, a protégé of both STRIKEFORCE World Middleweight Champion Jake Shields and Muay Thai legend Jongsanan Fairtex. "I'll be getting the best Josh Thomson out there and he's going to get the best Gilbert Melendez so it's going to be a great fight for the fans."
Tickets, priced from $30, are on sale at the HP Pavilion box office as well as at all Ticketmaster locations (800-745-3000), Ticketmaster online (www.ticketmaster.com) and STRIKEFORCE'S official website (www.strikeforce.com).
The live SHOWTIME® telecast will begin at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast), and conclude with a sensational, strikers' main event featuring undefeated superstar and former STRIKEFORCE World Middleweight (185 pounds) Champion Cung Le (6-0) against power punching Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith (16-6).
Also in action will be 2000 Olympic wrestling silver medalist Matt "The Law" Lindland (21-6), who will take on fellow superstar Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (10-2) at middleweight. Light heavyweight (205 pounds) star Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal (5-0) and middleweight knockout artist "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler (16-5) will each face opponents to be announced.

[Blog] Jose Aldo looking to follow in footsteps of Silva and Machida; seeks dominant reign as champ...: [caption id="attachment_31353" align="aligncenter" width="385" caption="Photo by Sherdog - Jose Aldo's relentless assault on Mike Brown at WEC 44 could not be stopped."][/caption]
(PRESS RELEASE) - Newly-crowned World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champion Jose Aldo had dreamed of winning a world title since he was a young boy. Growing up poor in Manaus, Brazil, Aldo didn't have many material possessions, nor did he always know when his next meal would come.
Simply put, Jose Aldo was hungry. Starving, actually. But what makes this story so unique is that Aldo's hunger could not be fulfilled by a cheeseburger. Despite his less-than-ideal upbringing, Aldo was craving a taste of success. Aldo wanted to become an elite fighter and escape the life of poverty, leaving championship gold as his only way out.
"My dream has always been to win a world title," Aldo said. "When I started my career, I set out to be the best. I wanted a better life for my family and for myself."
In front of a packed house at The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas last Wednesday, the 23-year-old Aldo realized his dream, scoring a second round TKO victory over Mike Brown to win the WEC Featherweight Championship. In doing so, Aldo knocked off one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport and claimed the title he long had an appetite for. Like his fellow countrymen Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida, Jose Aldo had finally achieved his goal of becoming a world champion.
"You could see how much the title meant to Jose when he was announced as the winner," WEC GM Reed Harris said. "Behind the devastating strikes and knockout power, Jose is actually a very emotional, humble man. To see him well up with tears was an awe-inspiring moment for me. It was a rare look at one of the most feared athletes in the sport."
At the post-fight press conference on Nov. 18, Aldo beamed with joy as Harris announced him as the new featherweight champion. However, as Harris told the assembled media that Aldo had the potential to be as dominant as Silva and Machida, Aldo admits that his thoughts drifted back to the days in which he struggled to stay afloat. He reflected on the shortage of food, clothes, and other necessities. While Harris was gushing about his new titleholder, Aldo, at least mentally, was back in Brazil.
"It's just nice to finally be the world champion," Aldo said shortly after the press conference concluded. "I am so happy that my dream came true."
As Aldo left the press conference, he handed the title belt to a member of his team and let out a huge breath of air. When asked by a WEC official how he felt, the young Brazilian offered a humorous response via his translator.
"I'm pretty hungry," Aldo said. "I think I want a cheeseburger."
Aldo, to no one's surprise, is still hungry.

MMA Big Show unleashes UFC veteran Junie Browning at "Onslaught" this Saturday, Nov. 28 #mma #juniebrowning #TUF #UFC http://ping.fm/DTJQy
[Blog] MMA Big Show unleashes UFC veteran Junie Browning at "Onslaught" this Saturday, Nov....: MMA Big Show presents "ONSLAUGHT" this Saturday, Nov. 28, live from the Belterra Casino in Belterra, Ind. The event will feature a main event of former UFC and TUF competitor Junie Browning (3-1) clashing with local up-and-comer Scott Cornwell (1-0). The co-main event will showcase ex-training partner of Rich Franklin and former MMA Big Show Middleweight Champion Mojo Horne (6-2) in a battle with Kevin Barkdull (3-1).
Tickets for the event are priced at $25, $40, $45, and $75, and are available through Ticketmaster, as well as www.mmabigshow.com (ages 21 and over only). If you can not make "ONSLAUGHT" in person, you can catch the live stream online at GoFightLive.com. Check out this "ONSLAUGHT" promotional video.
Junie Browning trains with TapouT Training Center coach Shawn Tompkins, and was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. In his elimination bout, he defeated Jose Aguilar by TKO, as Aguilar was not able to answer the bell for the 2nd round.
Browning was then made the first pick of the lightweights for Team Mir. He was successful in his quarterfinal match-up with Rolando Delgado, winning by decision after 3 rounds, dropping and nearly finishing Delgado in the 2nd round.
On December 13, 2008, Browning took on fellow Team Mir cast-mate Dave Kaplan on the main card of The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Finale, winning by armbar. Browning and Kaplan both won $25,000 Fight of the Night honors.
A lot has been made of Junie's recent legal troubles, and MMA Big Show President Jason Appleton is fully aware of his situation. "Booking Junie was a good decision and I stand by it," explained Appleton. "I believe he is going to show everyone that he has worked hard for this fight and deserves the opportunity. Scott Cornwell and Junie are going to make a memorable battle regardless of the outcome."
This will be Browning's first post-UFC fight, and he will be looking to show he wants to improve both as a fighter in the cage, and a person out of it. Regardless, he's excited to be fighting in MMA Big Show. "I love it. I've been to MMA Big Show before," said Browning. "It's an awesome, awesome show. I'm really excited about it, especially because it's close to home and I haven't had the opportunity to allow my friends and family to come watch me fight, so I'm pretty psyched about that."
In regards to his legal issues, Browning had this to say: "I have a lot to learn. It's not like I already have twenty or something fights and I've been doing this forever. I'm still trying to learn how to be more professional and stuff. I have no excuses as to why I made a mistake. I'm not perfect. What's important is I'm trying to improve myself."
And Browning is confident about Saturday's bout with Cornwell. Regarding his opponent, Browning stated, "He seems like a tough guy. He's got skill, but he's just not on the same level. He'll be able to hang in there...I'll even give him a round because he's sorta tough. But he hasn't trained or fought the level of guys I'm used to."
Browning's first challenge in MMA Big Show will be no pushover, as he will face fearsome fighter Scott Cornwell at Saturday's "ONSLAUGHT." The Cincinnati native started Tae Kwon Do at the age of three under Master David Huffstutler.
As a teenager, Cornwell quickly progressed through the ranks, and currently holds a 3rd degree black belt, winning several local and national tournaments. He also had a very impressive high school wrestling career, where he competed for multiple national teams in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
His amateur mixed martial arts career began in 2007 while training under 4th degree black belt and renowned MMA instructor Rob Gerhardt, and he won his first five amateur fights, amassing an impressive record of 7-2.
In preparation for his pro debut, Scott began additional training with Rod Housley at Team Vision while continuing to train and teach at Hamilton-Fairfield Tae Kwon Do. In short, Scott is an excellent striker and wrestler, and is well-versed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He is ready or the challenge that Browning will bring to the cage.

Much hyped Tito Ortiz comeback falls flat - Forrest Griffen wins split decision at UFC 106 #mma #ufc #ufc106 http://ping.fm/ONOLY
[Blog] Much hyped Tito Ortiz comeback falls flat - Forrest Griffen wins split decision at UFC ...: [caption id="attachment_31288" align="alignright" width="186" caption="Tito's three weeks with Freddie Roach did little to help him when Forrest poured on the heat."][/caption]
Forrest Griffen edged out a split decision victory over Tito Ortiz Saturday night in the UFC 106 main event which took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev. Ortiz used his wrestling to get Griffen to the ground early in the bout, but Griffen defended well from the bottom for the most part, and by the third round, Tito was having much more trouble with his takedowns.
Griffen picked "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" apart with superior striking but the third round was the most devastating. In the third, Ortiz barely mounted any offense at all, and basically became a strike test dummy for the winner of The Ultimate Fighter season one.
Ortiz and Griffen met inside the Octagon for the first time at UFC 59 in 2006. It was in that fight that Ortiz handed Griffen his very first UFC loss. That fight also finished via split decision. Following tonight's bout, Ortiz said they had now both won one fight each, and they needed to do it again for a tie-breaker. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan agreed with the sentiment.
Ortiz had been out of action since May 2008 when he lost a unanimous decision to UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 84. There were a lot of questions surrounding Tito coming into this fight. Would he have ring rust? How would he perform after having back surgery?
He definitely looked rusty. The audience let out some boos when In the post fight interview, as usual, Ortiz claimed he had some injuries coming into this fight.
The truth is, his stand up game looked about the same as it always had, and that is not going to cut it in the UFC light heavyweight division. He may have gained a new contract with the UFC, but so far he has not shown us that he has gained much more than that.
On the other hand, if he can remain injury free, and get back in the Octagon in a relatively short period of time, maybe he can shed off some of the rust, and get some wins under his belt. At this point, there are some match-ups for Ortiz that would make some exciting fights (Tito vs. Kimbo), but as far as him getting in line for a title hunt, he is not ready, and truthfully, may never be again.

Tyron Woodley proves to be unstoppable force at Strikeforce Challengers - recap & photos #mma #strikeforce #ufc http://ping.fm/Mzj6k
[Blog] Tyron Woodley proves to be an unstoppable force at "Strikeforce - Challengers Series 5" - recap & pho...: (PRESS RELEASE) - In an explosive performance, top welterweight (170 pounds) prospect Tyron "T-Wood" Woodley extended his perfect record to 5-0 by submitting battle tested Rudy Bears (13-6) with an arm triangle choke in the first round (2:52), live on SHOWTIME, Friday night in the main event of the STRIKEFORCE Challengers mixed martial arts (MMA) telecast from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.
Kerry Vera's (2-0) Muay Thai skills led her to a brutal first round (3:35) TKO on Kim "Sugar Free" Couture (1-2) in the featured women's 135 pound matchup.
Early in the first round, Bears, of Kansas City, Missouri was able to fight off the 27-year-old Woodley, a two-time All American wrestler for University of Missouri. But while the two were in the clinch Woodley scooped up and slammed Bears to the canvas.
Woodley quickly passed guard, and as Bears attempted to turn over, Woodley attempted an armbar. Bears escaped and brought the fight back to stand up position.
Shortly thereafter, Woodley secured a double leg takedown and passed Bears' guard to gain side control before slapping on an arm triangle choke that forced Bears to tap out at the 2:52 mark of the opening round.
In the first round of the female bout, Couture ate several punches. While in the clinch against the fence her opponent unloaded two straight knee strikes to her Couture's mid-section.
After Couture backed up, Vera swung away with her hands and connected with a flurry of lefts and rights, battering Couture until the referee jumped in and stopped the fight. Vera was declared the winner by way of TKO at the 3:35 mark of the first round.
Local star Bobby Voelker (21-7) turned the tides on Huntington Beach, California's Erik "Bad" Apple (10-2), who came out of the gates swinging in the first round of their welterweight (170 pounds) matchup.
The remarkably resilient Voelker weathered an early storm, scrambling to his feet after Apple dropped him with an overhand right. After absorbing a one-two punch combination, Voelker fired back with his own hands that backed up Apple.
Voelker tripped Apple to the ground and attempted to finish Apple with a flurry of punches from inside Apple's half guard before the closing bell sounded.
In the second stanza, a left hook from Voelker stunned his opponent. Apple attempted to counter, but was caught with another left to the chin.
Voelker took Apple down again. After Apple stood up, Voelker dropped him with a hard right hand. Voelker pounced on his downed opponent, unloading a series of right and left hands.
As Voelker continued to punish him and Apple turtled up, the referee stepped in and stopped the action at the 1:23 mark of the second round.
In his first appearance since suffering an upset defeat at the hands of Mike "Mak" Kyle, Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante (8-2) spent much of the first round of his matchup with Aaron Rosa (12-3) trying to control Rosa against the fence.
Cavalcante changed his tempo in the second round, taking Rosa down. The referee stood the fighters up, however, and issued Cavalcante a warning for striking his opponent with elbows to the head from inside Rosa's guard. (Striking a down opponent to the head with elbows is illegal).
After the action resumed, Cavalcante lunged at Rosa and tagged him with a knee strike to the head that put Rosa on his back. Cavalcante quickly pounced on Rosa and hammered him with punches until the referee stopped the contest at the 3:25 mark of the second round.
"King" Kevin Casey (3-1) of Los Angeles, California made quick work of Iowa's Chad Vance (7-4), taking Vance down in the early going of the first round. Vance gave up his back and Casey used the opportunity to unleash several punches before sinking in a rear naked choke from which Vance tapped out at the 1:41 mark of the first round.
Spencer Pratt, star of MTV's smash hit reality series "The Hills," was on hand to support Casey, his friend and business partner, from cageside.

[Blog] "UFC 105: Couture vs. Vera" on Spike TV delivers more young men than Strikeforce on ...: Tape Delayed Telecast of "UFC 105" Bests Live Saturday, November 7 Presentation Of "CBS Saturday Night Fights" In Key Demographic
Young Male Viewers Continue To Drive Spike TV And The UFC
As Network Telecast Ranks #1 In Men 18-34 Among Broadcast and Cable TV For Saturday, November 14
New York, NY, November 18, 2009 - The first ever UFC card on Spike TV featuring Randy "The Natural" Couture drew an average audience of 2.9 million viewers on Saturday, November 14 (8:00 - 11:00 PM). Emanating from a European UFC attendance record setting MEN Arena in Manchester, England, the tape delayed presentation of "UFC 105" outrated the LIVE broadcast "CBS Saturday Night Fights" and the Strikeforce debut of Fedor Emelianenko on Saturday, November 7 (9:00 - 11:24 PM, ET/PT) in every key male demographic:
P 18-34 by 30% (UFC 105 2.37, CBS Saturday Night Fights 1.82)
M 18-34 by 49% (UFC 105 3.45, CBS Saturday Night Fights 2.32)
M 18-24 by 73% (UFC 105 2.99, CBS Saturday Night Fights 1.73)
M 25-34 by 37% (UFC 105 3.78, CBS Saturday Night Fights 2.76)
M 18-49 by 16% (UFC 105 2.84, CBS Saturday Night Fights 2.45)
The telecast's stellar M 18-34 rating and delivery (994,000 viewers) outperformed anything else on television, broadcast or cable on November 14, including heavy sports competition from college football. The telecast peaked at 3.7 million viewers during the main event, a light heavyweight bout between Couture, the UFC® Hall of Famer, and his opponent, Brandon "The Truth" Vera.
Overall, the Spike telecast reached 2.9 million people with a 3.45 rating Men 18-34 (994,000), a 2.84 rating in Men 18-49 (1.6 million), and a 1.9 HH rating.
Couture prevailed in a classic matchup of grappler against striker, as his Greco wrestling ability and experience helped him earn a very close decision against Vera and his arsenal of Muy Thai strikes. The night's co-feature pitted the UK's Dan Hardy against Mike "Quick" Swick with number one contender in the welterweight division at stake. Hardy did not disappoint the partisan crowd as he put on a dominating performance en route to a unanimous decision, setting up a matchup with Georges St. Pierre down the line. Also on the card, Michael Bisping, fighting in his hometown of Manchester, utilized an extremely effective ground and pound strategy to defeat Denis Kang via TKO in the second round of their middleweight showdown.
The action-packed undercard also featured the two "The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom" champions in action, with lightweight winner Ross Pearson scoring a TKO win over Aaron Riley in the second round of their bout, and welterweight winner James Wilks falling to Matt Brown via TKO in the third round of their matchup.

The main event features a welterweight bout between undefeated submission phenom Tyron Woodley (5-0) taking on fast-rising Rudy Bears (10-3), who is on a six-fight win-streak.
Woodley has submitted all five of the opponents he has faced. Woodley's first pro fight was in 2006, and he submitted Alex Carter via rear-naked choke. Woodley had no professional MMA bouts from 2007-2008, but he returned to competition this year with a bang.
Woodley has already fought four times this year, and submitted every one of his opponents (one was due to strikes). Four of his five victories have come in the first round, and his most recent victory, over Zach Light at Strikeforce - Challengers 3, came via armbar in the second round.
As good as Woodley is, he will have his hands full with Rudy Bears. Like Woodley, Bears has also been busy this year, already knocking out two opponents, and winning a unanimous decision over the other. And last year, Bears fought eight times, going 6-2.
In the co-main event Kerry Vera, who is the wife of UFC light heavyweight fighter Brandon Vera, will take on Kim Couture, who is the ex-wife of UFC legend Randy Couture. Coincidentally, Kerry and Kim's fight is taking place just six days after Randy defeated Brandon at UFC 105 in Manchester, England. Kerry will certainly be looking for revenge.
One fight MMA fans will be watching intently is Kevin Casey vs. Chad Vance. Casey is coming into this fight with a ton of hype behind him, albeit most of that hype is coming from himself and his celebrity manager Spencer Pratt, through a Youtube rap video where he issues a warning to all his opponents, and another strange video that shows he and his crew working out and posing with assault rifles, with the obvious intention of showing the world he is a hard core gangster (white bred Beverly Hills celebrity manager in cowboy hat not withstanding).
Unfortunately, Casey's opponent Chad Vance has practically no hype behind him, except he is the guy fighting Kevin Casey. The sad part is, Casey is matched up with a fighter he will probably beat, which will further perpetuate the "King Casey" hype machine, and undoubtedly subject the world to more viral video of Casey rapping with his rich white sugar daddy wearing cowboy hats.
And believe it or not, Nick Nolte will be fighting on this card! It's true. OK, it's not THAT Nick Nolte, but it is Nick Nolte. The main card will air live on Showtime Friday night beginning at 10 p.m. CT. We invite you to join us here at ProMMA.info as we provide live results and play-by-play commentary of the event.

Now fully recovered from knee surgery, Joe Lauzon looks to return to action in January #mma #ufc http://ping.fm/3XE8R
[Blog] Now fully recovered from knee surgery, Joe Lauzon looks to return to action in Janu...: [caption id="attachment_31056" align="alignleft" width="260" caption=""J-Lau" was not crabby about his time off."][/caption]
Have you noticed Joe Lauzon (18-4) has not been in the Octagon lately? The young TUF 5 veteran has been recovering from a March 6 ACL surgery and having his meniscus repaired on his right knee. ProMMA.info received notice today via press release that Lauzon is fully recovered and anxious to get back into the Octagon.
Lauzon's last bout in the UFC was on Feb. 8 when he defeated Jeremy Stephens at UFC - Fight Night 17 via armbar submission at 4:32 of the second round. Lauzon actually had a torn ACL in his right knee for 1 ½ years before requiring surgery and being sidelined.
Lauzon explained when the point came he realized surgery was necessary,
"I felt looseness in my knee but could still train. Doctors at that time said they didn't want to disturb it. And it wasn't affecting me much. Two weeks before my last fight (Jeremy Stephens) I felt it like it wasn't quite right warming up. I tried to take him down in the first round and I fell over. I needed stitches in my head and couldn't train for a week, but when I returned my knee completely locked-up."
Doctors originally felt Lauzon would not be able to fight for 14 months. However due to a committed rehabilitation schedule and his young age (24), it now looks like "J-Lau" will return to action sometime in early January.
Lauzon talked about the quick recovery,
"I've always been able to recover quickly and bounce right back. Being 24 probably helped, too. I was lucky to have an awesome doctor (Dr. Pavlovich) and physical therapist. They let me push at an aggressive pace. I am 100-percent now; my knee is stronger than ever. It (injured knee) hurt me grappling -- triangle chokes - and anything my that stressed my knee felt loose. Now it's better than ever. My ‘bad knee' is more solid than my other knee. I did so much in rehab to strengthen it."
"J-Lau" also discussed the mental aspect of returning after knee surgery,
"A lot of people have told me a mental block would be the toughest part coming back to fight. For me, though, that's not a problem. I have faith in my doctor and coach. They told me my knee is strong, I feel the same way, and I'm not going to worry about it. I've always been an instinctive fighter and that's the way I'm going to continue to be. I've talked to a lot of people. My strength-and-conditioning coach (Steve Baccari) has been through it all. He's had surgery on both knees, so he knows where I am coming from. I know all about the knee now - where to apply pressure and where to be careful. "
[caption id="attachment_31057" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Photo: JoeLauzon.com - Joe's knee after surgery."][/caption]
In addition to fighting, Lauzon coaches about 30 members of Team Aggression at Lauzon MMA in Bridgewater, Mass. Lauzon is used to fighting multiple times a year. Since beginning his professional career in 2004, this is the longest he has been out of action. The man is ready to get back in the cage,
"I was still in the gym two weeks after surgery. I was helping out and running classes. Before surgery, I was laid-up in bed but afterwards started going to shows to support and watch our guys fight. I just couldn't get on the mat. Now, I'm ready to go and I've felt this way for a while. This has been my longest break. I'm chomping at the bit. I must have fought 30 times in six years, so I can't wait to get back."

[Blog] WEC announces television agreement with Globosat in Brazil - broadcasts begin Nov. 18 with 'Brown vs. Al...: The globalization of Zuffa continues as World Extreme Cagefighting today announced a multi-year television agreement with Brazil's Pay-TV market leader, the Globosat network. Beginning with a live broadcast of Wednesday's WEC: Brown vs. Aldo, Globosat will now carry all WEC events on its Combate Brasil martial arts channel.
Combat Brasil is one of Globosat's 26 channels, and in addition to WEC programming, the channel already airs such Zuffa content as UFC Fight NIght, UFC Unleashed, UFC All Access, and UFC Countdown.
WEC Vice President Peter Dropick commented on the new partnership between the WEC and Globosat,
"We are pleased to announce this partnership with Globosat and excited that the fans in Brazil have an opportunity to see their own Jose Aldo fight for a world title on Nov. 18. Brazil is home to some of the top mixed martial artists in the world and the fans there are very passionate about the sport. We are happy to bring WEC programming to Combate Brasil."
World Extreme Cagefighting boasts the top light weight fighters in the world; many which are Brazilian. Dropick is excited for Brazil MMA fans to see their countrymen in action inside the WEC cage,
"Brazil is home to some of the most legendary fighters in the history of our sport. We are confident that WEC fighters like Jose Aldo, Wagnney Fabiano, and others can carry on the legacy that started with Hall of Famers like Royce Gracie."
"MMA is attracting more Brazilian fans each day," Armando Augusto Nogueira, manager of pay-per-view channels and international events for Globosat, said. "That's why Combate offers, besides UFC, another great event of this sport, WEC. For the first time, we will show WEC, which involves the exciting lighter categories of MMA."

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – While the combat sports community is focused on the likes of Randy Couture, Brandon Vera, Dan Hardy, and Mike Swick this weekend, there is a fiery Brazilian who believes that he'll soon captivate the world's attention.
Jose Aldo, a 23-year-old explosive striker in the World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight division, is riding a five-fight win streak in the organization, including an eight-second TKO over Cub Swanson in his last fight in June. Just days away from his first world title shot against champion Mike Brown at The Palms Casino in Las Vegas on Nov. 18, the native of Rio de Janeiro feels that his time to rule the featherweight division has come.
"Everything in my life happens so fast for me," Aldo said. "So I don't feel any pressure for this fight. I might feel nervous before the fight, but that's it. I want to bring the featherweight title back to Brazil. Mike Brown is an excellent fighter and a world champion. But I'm hungry to win the belt. It's something I've wanted since I started this sport and I'm excited that the opportunity has arrived."
On the heels of one of the most highly-anticipated fights in company history, WEC General Manager Reed Harris is anxious to see whether Aldo can derail the reigning champion. Given Brown's 10-fight winning streak and Aldo's knack for finishing fights, Harris believes the main event on Nov. 18 will be one for the ages.
"This is a fight that the entire sports world is excited to see," Harris said. "For Mike, the fight with Aldo is a chance to cement his legacy as the best 145-pounder ever. For Aldo, this is an opportunity to continue his domination of the weight class.
"I've had some of the world's best fighters tell me how fired up they are for Brown-Aldo," Harris continued. "Guys like Shane Carwin and Chuck Liddell can't wait for this fight. They know that Mike Brown and Jose Aldo are going to bring it on Nov. 18. This is what MMA is all about."
With anticipation for the fight building, Aldo understands that Nov. 18 could be a launching pad to superstardom in the sport. When he fights Mike Brown at The Palms in less than a week, Aldo hopes to become just the third Brazilian to win a WEC world title.
"The dream is coming true," Aldo said. "I've wanted this shot for a long time, so I'm very focused on this fight. Mike Brown is a very good fighter and I respect him. But I'm going to be even better than I was last time."
Given the damage inflicted in his last fight, the thought of an even better Aldo could be a scary fact for many in the WEC featherweight division.
On Nov. 18, could we be seeing the beginning of the Jose Aldo era?

[Blog] NFL legend and Patriots linebacker to tackle the jobs that make sports work in new original series on Ver...: Sports Jobs With Junior Seau' Kicks Off With Two Episodes on Dec. 2
(PRESS RELEASE) - On the field, on the ice, in the cage or behind the wheel, professional athletes have to be tough. But what does it take to do the behind-the-scenes jobs in sports? All-Pro linebacker Junior Seau is about to find out. In VERSUS' new original series, Sports Jobs with Junior Seau, the NFL legend trades in his helmet and pads and tries out the sometimes thankless, but extremely important, jobs across the entire sports world. The 10-episode weekly half-hour series will air on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET, beginning December 2, with two back-to-back episodes.
"This is the first show that gives fans a look at the people who make the games possible. These guys don't get the fame and recognition but they are just as talented and compelling as the players and they have just as much pride in their work," said Andy Meyer, Vice President of Original Programming for VERSUS. "We're very excited to have Junior Seau, one of the greatest players the NFL has ever seen, on VERSUS' team doing the every day jobs that make sports work."
In the premiere episode at 10 p.m. ET on December 2, Seau will be working as part of the construction crew helping to build the new stadium for the New York Giants. In the second episode of the night, Seau will wear Dodger blue and serve as the batboy/equipment manager during a Dodgers home stand against the Milwaukee Brewers. Some of the other episodes will feature Seau working as the equipment manager for the Washington Capitals, as an IndyCar pit crew member, a college football writer for Sports Illustrated, a member of an arena conversion crew and as bullfighter at a Professional Bull Riders (PBR) event.
"Throughout my 19-year professional football career, I've had the great fortune to work with so many phenomenal people; from equipment managers to trainers to the field crew, it is because of these unsung heroes that I am able to be the best player I can be on the field," said show host Junior Seau. "I'm very excited to be part of show that allows me to do the jobs that are essential to a sport and make an impact on the overall effectiveness of an athlete or team."
A San Diego native, Seau began making a name for himself in football during his collegiate days at USC where he was an All-American player. In 1990, following his junior year college football season, he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the draft as the fifth pick overall. A Charger until 2002, Seau went on to play for the Miami Dolphins from 2003 until 2005 and was signed by the New England Patriots in 2006. Seau took a short break from football prior to the start of the 2009 NFL season for production of Sports Jobs, but after seeing how difficult some of the jobs actually were-including getting tackled by a bull during his bullfighter job with the PBR-Junior decided he'd rather take his chances on the field and returned to the Patriots team roster in time to play in the sixth game of the 2009 season.
in addition to the opening night episodes, The rest of the on-air schedule follows (subject to change):
NHL EQUIPMENT MANAGER (December 9, 11:30 p.m. ET)
The Washington Capitals travel with thousands of pounds of skates, pads, jerseys, sticks and pucks and being their equipment manager for the 2009/10 NHL season-opening road game at Boston is no small task.

Junior learns to read greens and minds, as he works a loop with LPGA and reality TV superstar Natalie Gulbis.
