[Blog] Kevin Jordan defeats Patrick Smith in UFC veterans Super Fight and Gordon submits Lamotte at American Steel Cagefighting de...: Headlining American Steel Cagefighting's inaugural show in Salem, New Hampshire Friday night, July 31, was a welterweight match-up between Doug "Flash" Gordon and Nate "The Future" Lamotte. Lamotte started off strong with a takedown and some ground and pound, but as soon as Gordon was able to get back to his feet he sunk in an arm-in guillotine for the tapout victory at just 2:01 of round one.

Other featured bouts on the card included a lightweight co-main event with Pat Audinwood taking on Al Buck and a Super Fight with UFC veterans Kevin Jordon (fought at UFC 53, 56) and Patrick Smith (fought at UFC 1,2,6) battling it out for heavyweight supremacy.

Al Buck got a nice slam early in round one but it did not take long for Audinwood to get in the perfect position to sink in a triangle and force the submission just :54 seconds into the fight. Audinwood improved his undefeated record to 8-0 and is someone to keep an eye on.

38-year-old Kevin Jordan (11-7) looked pretty good the first two rounds and dropped 46-year-old Patrick Smith (20-15) with a big right hand in the second. By the third round, Jordan was worn out and Smith, still going strong, put Jordan on his back and put on the ground and pound.

Smith's third tound comeback was not enough to overcome the first two rounds he had already lost and the unanimous decision went to Kevin Jordan. It was a competitive fight that turned into a slugfest at times and definitely lived up to its "Super Fight" hype.

American Steel Cagefighting's next event was announced to take place on Sept. 11, 2009 and will feature Calvin Kattar vs. Andrew Martinez in the main event at the Icenter in Salem, N.H. As the broadcast was closing, the webcast announcer actually said, "Be sure to come out to the next event we will have some great fights including a midget fight."

You can find out more about American Steel Cagefighting on their website at www.cagefighting.com.

Here is the play-by-play for the ASC featured fights of the night:

[Blog] Steve Eldridge vs. Jeff Morris headline "Gladiator Challenge: Total Recall" on July 31 in Col...: Colusa, Calif. -- Gladiator Challenge (GC), one of the longest-running MMA promotions in existence, proudly presents “Total Recall” on Friday, July 31st, live from the Colusa Casino Resort in Colusa, California.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with fights beginning at 8:00 p.m. GC has scheduled more than 10 action-packed bouts, including two Gladiator Challenge World title fights.

The main event pits Jeff Morris (6-5) against Steve Eldridge (1-1), in a bout that has Eldridge’s GC Middleweight World Title belt on the line. The co-main event features an equally exciting clash between current GC Super Heavyweight World Champion, Ross Clifton (6-9), and undefeated newcomer, Rick Vardell (1-0).

Information on the Colusa Casino Resort can be found at www.colusacasino.com, or by calling (530) 458-8844. MMA fans can purchase tickets to “Total Recall” at www.virtualboxoffice.com, or call (888) 826-8858.

GC Middleweight champion, Steve Eldridge, will be looking at this bout as an opportunity to both improve on his record and defend his title. Eldridge is coming off an impressive victory (submission due to punches) against Robert Sarkozi this past May at GC’s “Put Up or Shut Up” event.

Eldridge will face a tough test as faces off against a more experienced fighter in Jeff Morris. Morris should be fresh as he steps into the ring for the first time since winning his last fight against Tony Juares more than six months ago.

Standing at 6’8” and weighing in at 360 lbs, current GC Super Heavyweight champion, Ross Clifton, has a chip on his shoulder that is matched only by his huge frame. Clifton is focused and ready to notch a win on his record after having lost four straight.

His last defeat came at the hands of former UFC legend Ken Shamrock, who tested positive after the bout for steroids. Clifton wants to prove that loss was a fluke and is looking to dish out his frustration on undefeated GC newcomer, Rick Vardell.

Vardell is walking proof that MMA fighters come from a broad array of backgrounds, as his experience includes time spent in competitive arm wrestling.

Also featured on this card: Jaime Jara, Tim Hausler Sr, David Sauraz, Bill Everheart, Rob Dean, Chris Latino, Travis Hutto, Matt Williamson, Termain Smith, Joe McClure, Robert Ballard and many more!

[Blog] Fedor Emelianenko to address the media during Wednesday press conference in Anah...: Anaheim, Calif. - Ever since Affliction announced late last week that its "Trilogy" event scheduled for Aug. 1 had been canceled, the combat sports world collectively has waited for an official response from former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko.

On Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT inside the DoubleTree Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., Emelianenko will address the media for the first time since last week's sudden cancellation. During the press conference, Emelianenko will discuss the ramifications of the cancellation, comment on his future in the fight game, and respond to questions from members of the media.

"Since the cancellation, there has been a great deal of speculation regarding Fedor and M-1," said Vadim Finkelchtein, whose M-1 Global fight company not only produces international MMA events but also manages Fedor. "On Wednesday, the media and fans will be able to hear what's going on with Fedor from the man himself."

Emelianenko, considered by most pundits to be the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, had been scheduled to fight top contender Josh Barnett. A win over Barnett would have marked the sixth former UFC heavyweight champion that Emelianenko has defeated in his career. Unfortunately, Emelianenko was denied his opportunity after the California State Athletic Commission announced last Wednesday that Barnett would not be granted a license in time for the fight.

Emelianenko, 30-1, is perceived by many within the industry to be a free agent and it is believed he is being courted by every major MMA promotion in the world. Already considered a superstar in many other countries, he has seen his popularity rise in the U.S. since defeating Tim Sylvia, a former UFC heavyweight champion, in just 36 seconds in July of 2008. Emelianenko followed up the dominant Sylvia victory with a first round knockout over Andrei Arlovski -- another former UFC heavyweight champion -- this past Janu... -*http://promma.info/index.php/2009/07/28/fedor-emelianenko-to-address-the-media-during-wednesday-press-conference-in-anaheim/

[Blog] Lamotte vs. Gordon headlines inaugural American Steel Cagefighting event on July ...: SALEM, New Hampshire (July 27, 2009) – Manchester welterweight Nate “The Future” Lamotte headlines Friday night’s (July 31) inaugural American Steel Cagefighting’s (ASC) mixed martial arts show against dangerous Doug “Flash” Gordon (9-7-0) at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire.

Lamotte (10-4-0), who is part owner of Team Burgess in Manchester, started learning mixed martial art disciplines when he was eight, transferred it over to combat fighting with the rising popularity of UFC, and has been training to fight in the cage for the past four years.

“The days of specialty fighting is gone,” Lamotte explained. “I do as much all-around MMA to survive in this sport today. I box, three months ago I started Jiu-Jitsu training, and I’ve been submission grappling for 10 years. I’m more experienced on the ground and feel safer fighting there. I can prevent getting knocked out better on the ground and know how to control submissions. But I can pound on the ground, or not.

“Gordon uses kicks. He’s a good stand-up fighter who has gone many 3-round fights. He has a great head-kick that he used to knockout (Gregor) Gracie in the third round after losing the whole fight. He’s explosive and capable of finishing at any point. This is going to be a war of attrition.”

In the co-main event, New York lightweight Pat Audinwood (7-0-0) puts his unbeaten record on the line against veteran “Mr. Big” Al Buck (6-7-0), former Cage Fury Fighting champion.

In the “Super Fight” fans will have an opportunity to watch two UFC veterans in action as UFC1 pioneer fighter Patrick Smith (16-13-0), making his New England debut, takes on super heavyweight Kevin “The Shamnan” Jordan (11-8-0).

Also scheduled to fight on the exciting ASC undercard is middleweight Worcester featherweight Evan Parker (1-0-0) vs. Matt McCusker (0-2), lightweight Kenny Foster (1-0-0) vs. Joe “The Boneyard Pitbull” Dechaves (3-1-0), lightweight Brian “The Butcher” Danner (1-1-0) vs. Chris Foster (3-0-0),; Manchester welterweight Ryan “The Lion” Schieding (3-1-0) vs. Carlos Nieves (3-6-0), and Manchester Adam “Lonewolf” McQuaid makes his pro debut vs. Brian DeMuro (4-6-0).

In a pair of amateur matches, Al Germain Sterling faces Ibrahiem Tody, of Allston (MA),at 145-pounds, while Nashua 160-pounder Tim Bagley faces Dominic Warr, of Boston.

The eight pro fights are scheduled for three, three-minute rounds; fighters and fights are subject to change. Tickets, priced at $50.00, $75.00, and $100.00, are available to purchase at Stateline Ticket Agency in Salem (NH) and all Two Guys Smoke Shop stores in Salem, Nashua and Seabrook (NH), as well as by calling toll free 888.224.4272 or going on line to www.AmericanSteelCagefighting.com.

[Blog] Renato "Babalu" Sobral to put Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Title on the line against Gegard Mousasi on August...: Gegard Mousasi was originally scheduled to fight Renato "Babalu" Sobral as part of the now defunct "Affliction: Trilogy" event on Aug. 1. Due to the cancellation of the card and the subsequent shutdown of Affliction's MMA promotional division, the bout has been moved to Strikeforce, where Sobral in fact holds the light heavyweight title.

PRO MMA (promma.info) received the following press release regarding the news:

NEW YORK (July 27, 2009)--The highly-anticipated showdown between Renato "Babalu" Sobral (35-8) and Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1), which was suddenly cancelled by its original promoter last week, has been revitalized and will be contested with Sobral's STRIKEFORCE World Light Heavyweight (205 pounds) Championship on the line at San Jose, California's HP Pavilion on Saturday, August 15.

The title bout will be featured during the SHOWTIME televised portion of the STRIKEFORCE: "Carano vs. Cyborg" mixed martial arts (MMA) mega-card.

"I am very happy that STRIKEFORCE has resurrected this fight and that I will have the opportunity to become STRIKEFORCE world champion," said Mousasi, who is in the midst of a monstrous, 12 fight win streak. The 23-year-old was crowned the first Dream Middleweight Champion and Middleweight Grand Prix Tournament Champion last year in Japan.

"STRIKEFORCE is one of the world's top promotions and I am proud to be a part of their roster of world-class fighters," he said.

His wins over Denis Kang, Melvin Manhoef, and Ronaldo Souza last year cemented Mousasi's place as one of the world's top three middleweights.

Mousasi's last victory, a first round (1:20) submission of former K-1 heavyweight champion Mark Hunt in Yokohama, Japan on May 26th of this year confirmed his desire and ability to conquer opponents in a heavier weight class as did his first round (2:32) KO of Japanese heavyweight champion Musashi in a K-1 kickboxing rules bout in Saitama, Japan on December 31, 2008.

The 33-year-old Sobral, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and former national wrestling champion for Brazil, will defend his STRIKEFORCE championship for the first time since he seized the title from Bobby Southworth at HP Pavilion on November 21, 2008.

Sobral, a former UFC championship challenger, is riding a five fight win streak that began with his second round (3:30) submission of David Heath at UFC 74 on August 25, 2007. In his last start, he submitted Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou with a brabo choke in the second round (2:36) of their meeting at Affliction: "Day of Reckoning" at Honda Center in Anaheim, California on January 24 of this year.

A year and a half ago, Sobral relocated from his homeland to Orange County, California where

he has since taken on former world championship boxing contender Justin Fortune as a trainer in order to bring his striking skills up to par with his expertise in submissions.

Over the course of 43 career starts, Sobral has faced and defeated some of the sport's best competitors including legendary K-1 and UFC champion Maurice Smith. On Sept. 6, 2003, Sobral knocked off three top-tier rivals-Jeremy Horn, Mauricio "Ninja" Rua, and Trevor Prangley-during a single-elimination tournament.

In the main event on August 15, mixed martial arts' (MMA) leading lady, the undefeated and extremely popular Gina "Conviction" Carano (7-0), will square off with rival powerhouse Cris "Cyborg" (7-1) in what is one of the most eagerly anticipated battles of all time.

Carano and Cyborg, the consensus two best female fighters in the world, will be the first women in MMA history to headline a major MMA fight card. In addition, they will fight for the first STRIKEFORCE 145-pound Female Championship.

STRIKEFORCE World Lightweight (155 pounds) Champion Josh "The Punk" Thomson (16-2) will set out to defend his crown against Gilbert "El Nino" Melendez (15-2), the man whom Thomson dethroned by way of unanimous decision at HP Pavilion on June 27, 2008.

Tickets for STRIKEFORCE: "Carano vs. Cyborg," priced from $30, are on sale at the HP Pavilion box office (408-287-7070) as well as at all Ticketmaster locations (800-745-3000), Ticketmaster online (www.ticketmaster.com ), and the official STRIKEFORCE website (www.strikeforce.com ).

HP Pavilion doors will open for the event at 5 p.m. The first preliminary bout will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The live SHOWTIME telecast of STRIKEFORCE: "Carano vs. Cyborg" will begin at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT (tape delayed on the west coast).

After co-promoting two events live on SHOWTIME in 2007 and 2008, STRIKEFORCE in March 2009 signed a multi-year agreement to stage live MMA events on the premium cable television netw... -*http://promma.info/index.php/2009/07/27/renato-babalu-sobral-to-put-strikeforce-light-heavyweight-title-on-the-line-against-gegard-mousasi-on-august-15/

[Blog] Following coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter, Tom Blackledge set to return to M-1 Challe...: Amsterdam, Holland - When Team England submitted their roster for the June 6 best-of-five M-1 Challenge (www.M-1Global.com) matchup vs. France, light heavyweight Tom Blackledge was a noticeable absentee.

Following a successful M-1 debut this past April in Japan in which Blackledge submitted Tatsuya Mizuno with a rear naked choke at 3:22 of round 1, Blackledge emerged as one of England's team leaders.

At the time, Team England indicated that Blackledge had been scratched due to injury. However, reports have surfaced that the Wolfslair Academy product was busy assisting teammate and close friend Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as a coach during the recent taping of Spike TV's hit reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.

The upcoming tenth season, featuring heavyweights Roy Nelson and Kimbo Slice, was shot over the course of six weeks in Las Vegas, preventing Blackledge from competing. But when England attempts to clinch a playoff berth by winning its best-of-five matchup vs. Group A rival Team Spain, Blackledge will be back in action.

Blackledge will look to improve his M-1 Challenge record to 2-0 when he faces Spain light heavyweight Enoc Solves at Studio 22 in Hilversum, Holland on August 15. The Team Spain vs. Team England matchup will be one of six M-1 Challenge matchups featured during a two-day mega taping.

And while Blackledge will be returning to the Team England fold, the squad will be without both lightweight Ian Butlin and heavyweight Rob Broughton. Butlin, recently featured in a documentary on Bravo in the U.K., has been forced to retire due to multiple facial fractures. Meanwhile, Broughton, who had been scheduled to take on Jessie Gibbs on Aug. 1 at Affliction's ill-fated "Trilogy" event, will remain off the roster as it is rumored he could face Gibbs on Aug. 28 during M-1 Global's "Breakthrough" event in Los Angeles.

Stepping in for Butlin is Scott Hewitt while David Keeley has gotten the call to fill Broughton's shoes. Hewitt is a former professional soccer and rugby player and is 1-0 since making his professional MMA debut, thanks to his prior training in both boxing and judo. Like Hewitt, Keeley is also undefeated (3-0) and was a professional athlete before converting to MMA. A former basketball player, the 27-year old will become the tallest competitor ever to fight for the M-1 Challenge at 6'10''.

"What Dave Keeley lacks in experience he more than makes up with enthusiasm, power and freakish size," said England coach Aaron Chatfield. "He has a challenge in front of him, but we are confident Dave (and his team) will rise to."

"M-1 Challenge is known for it's huge heavyweights and at six foot, ten inches, we feel we have the biggest heavyweight out there now," said team manager Ian Dean. "We are confident of him doing the business, especially if the five bout series against Team Spain comes down to the clutch fifth bout."

Joining Blackledge, Hewitt, and Keeley will be returnees Simon Phillips (welterweight) and Matt Thorpe (middleweight). Tied with Team France with overall records of 1-1 and individual records of 5-5, a Team England win combined with a Team France loss sends the British to the M-1 Challenge semifinals in just their first season. If both teams win or both teams lose, the team with the most individual wins will advance.

The current lineup for the Team England vs. Team Spain matchup on Aug. 15 at Studio 22 in Hilversum, Holland is as follows:

Team Challenge #1: Spain vs. England

1. Lightweight (154 lbs./-70 kg): Jose Roque vs. Scott Hewitt
2. Welterweight (167.2 lbs./-76 kg): Jonathan Leon vs. Simon Phillips
3. Middleweight (184.8 lbs./-84 kg): Rafael Rodriguez vs. Matt Thorpe
4. Light Heavyweight (204.8 lbs./-93 kg): Enoc Solbes vs. Tom Blackledge
5. Heavyweight (+204.8 lbs./+93 kg): TBA vs. David Keeley

[Blog] M-1 Global officially announces Don Frye vs. King Mo to headline first ever M-1 Breakthrough event on Aug. 28 live on HD...: M-1 Global (www.M-1Global.com) officials announced on Thursday the birth of its new premium fight series, "M-1 Breakthrough." Officially titled "M-1 Global Presents Breakthrough," the first event has been scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28 and will be held in conjunction with the IMMAE (www.IMMAE.tv) in Los Angeles, Calif. at the Convention Center.

The event will be televised live on HDNet and headlined by MMA legend and former UFC champion Don "The Predator" Frye (20-7-1) taking on former NCAA champion "King" Mo Lawal (4-0) and devastating French striking phenom Karl "Psycho" Amoussou (10-2-1) going against former BodogFIGHT welterweight champion Nick "The Goat" Thompson (38-11-1).

M-1, which also produces and promotes the M-1 Challenge and M-1 Selection fight series, will promote its first-ever major show televised live in the United States with "Breakthrough." In addition to the two co-main events, five other fights showcasing the best and brightest of the M-1 Challenge will also air on HDNet.

"The title 'Breakthrough' represents M-1 Global's ongoing quest to expose new talent to different International markets," said Joost Raimond, Chief Operating Officer of M-1 Global. "With this event, we are proud that we are able to bring fight fans the U.S. debuts of both Mo Lawal and Karl Amoussou."

In addition to being a former NCAA Division II amateur wrestling champion, Lawal was also a Division I All-American at Oklahoma State University, a powerhouse that has produced the likes of former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Randy Couture, current UFC middleweight Jake Rosholt, former NCAA champion and current UFC light heavyweight Mark Munoz, and three-time NCAA champion and current UFC welterweight Johny Hendricks.

A 2008 hopeful for the U.S. Olympic team, Lawal made his professional mixed martial arts debut in Tokyo, Japan on Sept. 28, 2008 and defeated former YAMMA heavyweight champion Travis Wiuff via TKO in just 2:11. He has fought three more times in Japan under the Sengoku banner and has posted wins over Fabio Silva, Yukiya Naito, and Ryo Kawamura. On Aug. 28 in LA at "M-1 Global Presents Breakthrough," he will be facing his biggest test to date in Frye.

Frye, a sure-fire MMA Hall of Famer who has a role in the summer blockbuster Public Enemies, is considered one of the most prolific fighters ever to compete in MMA. He made his pro debut in 1996 at UFC 8, where he recorded what to this day is still tied for the fastest victory in UFC history following his eight second knockout of Thomas Ramirez.

A winner of both the UFC 8 and Ultimate Ultimate 96 tournaments, Frye holds notable wins over in his career against UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock, Gary Goodridge, Gilbert Yvel, and street fighting pioneer Tank Abbott. His most recent win took place on May 2 in Lubbock, Texas following his first round submission of Ritch Moss.

The Lawal vs. Frye showdown at "M-1 Breakthrough" will also serve as a battle between Oklahoma State alumni. Before entering MMA, Frye was a standout wrestler in college, originally competing at Arizona State and later transferring to OSU. In addition to his wrestling experience, he also holds a second degree black belt in Judo and has competed as a professional boxer.

"M-1 Breakthrough" will also mark Amoussou's first-ever appearance in the U.S. The younger brother of former PRIDE competitor Bertrand Amoussou, the 23-year has a well-earned reputation for being one of the middleweight division's most dangerous fighters. Featured in 2008 as a staple of the M-1 Challenge on HDNet, Amoussou's charisma and highlight-reel knockouts recently earned him the honor of being named as Sherdog's number one rated European MMA prospect.

"Aug. 28 at M-1 Breakthrough will be Amoussou's coming out party," stated M-1 Global V.P. of Talent Relations Apy Echteld. "He's a well-known commodity with hardcore fans but has been a well-kept secret from the mainstream for too long. A lot of well-known middleweights were afraid to accept this fight but Nick Thompson was confident enough in his own abilities to step up and move from welterweight."

In addition to being the former BodogFIGHT welterweight champion, Thompson, a fighter who doubles as a licensed attorney in the state of Minnesota, has also competed for the UFC and EliteXC. A standout wrestler that has become a respected boxer while training out of the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy, Thompson holds notable wins in his career over current Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, former EliteXC star Paul Daley, current UFC welterweight Chris Wilson, and current UFC lightweight Josh Neer.

Ticket information as well as the complete lineup for the event, will be updated regularly on www.M-1Global.... -*http://promma.info/index.php/2009/07/23/m-1-global-officially-announces-don-frye-vs-king-mo-to-headline-first-ever-m-1-breakthrough-event-on-aug-28-live-on-hdnet/

[Blog] Topps "Blown away" by success of UFC Round 1 trading cards, Brock Lesnar and TUF 9 autograph cards coming in Roun...: Topp's director of product development, Clay Luraschi, recently talked with Tracy Hackler at Beckett.com about the trading card industry, and dropped big news as it relates to the very popular line of UFC sports trading cards.

Luraschi and Topps knew they were on to something big when they partnered with the UFC for Round 1, but didn't know exactly how big the impact would be once the product dropped.

"We knew we wanted to put out a solid product," said Luraschi, "and we worked very closely with the UFC in doing that."

"We weren't really clear on how big our collector base was going to be. We didn't know how many UFC fans out there were going to be drawn to trading cards, but we were absolutely blown away by the response."

Without a doubt, the biggest hit of Round 1 were the autograph cards, with the highly coveted red autograph cards (limited to 25 cards) for some stars such as GSP, Anderson Silva, and Royce Gracie fetching upwards of $600 each on Ebay auctions.

One of the biggest surprises from Topps executives including Luraschi himself, is that the more he and others looked and collected the cards, the more intrigued he became as a casual fan, to began to really learn more about the fighters and MMA itself.

So how does Topps elevate the game now with Round 2? Luraschi had one name to promote the new line of autograph cards.... Brock Lesnar. Lesnar will be highlighting the series 2 autographs, along with the entire cast of The Ultimate Fighter season 9. That's right you heard it here first, you could be the first to own your very own TUF 9 Jason Pearce sports card!

[Blog] UFC, WEC, and EliteXC veterans Clark, Doyle, and Brenneman added to USA East roster for Aug. 15-16 M-1 Challe...: With welterweight Steve Carl still sidelined by leg surgery and lightweight Renato Migliaccio now on the shelf due to shoulder surgery, USA East has been forced to make multiple roster changes in anticipation of its Sunday, Aug. 16 M-1 Challenge matchup vs. Team Benelux.

The best-of-five series, scheduled to emanate from Studio 22 in Hilversum, Holland and will be televised live via Internet PPV on www.M-1Global.com (not available in the U.S. or Korea), is set to serve as the feature attraction of a two-day "mega-taping" of the M-1 Challenge scheduled from Aug. 15-16. All told, the weekend will feature 10 teams from the M-1 Challenge for a total of 30 fights.

USA East will look to defeat Benelux (a conglomerate of Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands) and clinch a semifinal playoff berth by winning Group C. However, a loss could cost USA East its slim lead over Finland and leave the squad without a post-season invitation.

With its season at stake, USA East has recruited fighters with UFC, WEC, and EliteXC experience in hopes of defeating Benelux on its home turf. EliteXC vets Charlie "The Spainard" Brenneman and John Doyle have both been added to the team along with former UFC and WEC competitor Logan Clark.

Additionally, WEC veteran Charles "The Reverend" Grigsby, 16-4, returns to USA East after missing its last team meet vs. Finland in Kansas City this past June due to prior commitments. Grigsby, who was victorious for USA East this past March during its opener in Bulgaria as a light heavyweight, will move to heavyweight and challenge Gewik Mousasi, the older brother of M-1 Global superstar Gegard Mousasi.

Brenneman, 8-1, will represent USA East as its new welterweight (167.2 lbs./-76 kg). Fighting out of "The Great Fighting City of Philadelphia," Brenneman currently trains out of AMA with current UFC fighters Jim and Dan Miller and Frankie Edgar. He has also spent significant time at Matt Hughes' H.I.T. Squad gym in St. Louis as a training partner for the former UFC welterweight champion.

The winner of season one of the Spike TV reality show Pros vs. Joes, Brenneman was successful in his lone fight under the EliteXC banner, earning a decision victory in January of 2007 against Drew Puzon. His lone career loss was a close decision to current UFC welterweight John Howard. Brenneman will have his M-1 Challenge debut cut out for him when he faces Benelux's Raymond Jarman.

"Jarman recorded one of the best knockouts of the '08 M-1 Challenge season this past May in Brazil," said M-1 USA Vice President of Live Events Joe Kelly, referring to Jarman's 35 second KO of Bulgaria's Ivan Ivanov. "And Brenneman is one of the top American welterweight prospects you're going to find competing right now. This is going to be a tremendous fight."

Brenneman will not be making the 10-hour trek to Amsterdam alone, as he will be joined by fellow Philadelphia-based fighter John Doyle. After beginning his career with a 6-1 record and the Combat in the Cage light heavyweight title, Doyle was on the verge of superstardom. However, recent struggles have slowed his progression.

A fearless fighter who once accepted a fight on 10 days notice vs. Rafael Feijao, Doyle's comeback began this past June during his M-1 Challenge debut as a last-minute replacement at light heavyweight for Team Turkey. Doyle impressed M-1 officials during the bout and earned an invitation to return as USA East's middleweight (-84 kg/184.8 lbs.) representative.

"Being a professional fighter obviously carries the trait of being tough," Kelly began. "However, Doyle takes it to another level. He fought in Kansas City on 24 hours notice, arriving on Friday morning and then fighting just hours later. John not only fought but he almost knocked out his opponent and ended up winning 'Fight of the Night' honors."

Doyle has hopes of becoming a permanent fixture at middleweight for M-1 but must get past Benelux's Richard Plug in order to land a regular spot. Plug, 8-4-1, an assistant trainer at the M-1 gym in Amsterdam, is returning to active competition for the first time since 2004.

With a combined 3-1 record while competing for the UFC and WEC, Clark earned big-time fights in Japan under the Sengoku banner against Kazuo Misaki and current middleweight champion Jorge Santiago. The Minnesota native has been tapped by USA East to move up from middleweight to challenge Jason Jones at light heavyweight.

"Logan is a tremendous talent who began his career with a 10-0 record," said Kelly. "Needless to say, he's an excellent addition to the M-1 Challenge. Jason was one of M-1's true breakout stars in 2008 and the fight between him and Logan has a chance to be the best fight of the entire weekend. The audience attending live the the viewers watching the Internet PPV will more than get their money's wor... -*http://promma.info/index.php/2009/07/21/ufc-wec-and-elitexc-veterans-clark-doyle-and-brenneman-added-to-usa-east-roster-for-aug-15-16-m-1-challenge/

[Blog] Johnny Rees takes on Chris Wells in MMA Big Show main event set for July 25th in Indi...: INDIANA (July 20, 2009) - Indiana’s top fight promotion, MMA Big Show, is putting on a show that can only be labeled as “UNSTOPPABLE.” The Belterra Casino Resort & Spa in Veevay, Indiana will be the site, and 12 professional and amateur bouts will be presented.

Featured in the main event will be two-time UFC veteran Johnny “The Hater Hurter” Rees taking on Jorge Gurgel Academy Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt Chris Wells in an anticipated bout. Sporting a 10-2 record with eight submission victories, Rees is a respected ground fighter with a desire to prove he’s amongst the best of the best. Standing in his way is Chris Wells, who’s looking to leap-frog his opponent and make a name for himself.

In the co-main event, MMA Big Show Welterweight Champion “Relentless” Roger Bowling will tackle the challenge presented by hungry up-and-comer Devon Plaisance. One of the fastest-rising stars in MMA today, Bowling was scheduled to main event MMA Big Show’s last event, “CONVICTION,” but had to pull out due to injury. But his challenger has no plans to roll over and let the champion use him as a stepping stone. Plaisance’s last bout was with UFC veteran Cale Yarbrough, and he’s stepping up his game even more in anticipation of his co-main event with Bowling.

In addition, “UNSTOPPABLE” will debut its very first female MMA fight. “UNSTOPPABLE” is the next step for one of the fastest-growing MMA promotions in the United States, MMA Big Show.

In addition to the main and co-main events, the card will feature heavyweight action between two undefeated blue-chippers, “The Country Boy” Dave Hess (3-0) and Steve “Lambchop” Banks (4-0).

With 12 pro and amateur fights scheduled for “UNSTOPPABLE,” MMA Big Show is poised to show it belongs amongst the big promotions of MMA. Known for the hot MMA action they provide, Big Show has featured an incredible mix of former UFC fighters and rising stars, and recently secured a TV broadcast deal.

[Blog] Ultimate Fighters duke it out with Shane Primm defeating Mike Dolce at Music City ...: Music City MMA held their "Rock & Havoc" show Saturday night, July 18, in Nashville, Tenn. at the Municipal Auditorium. Headlining the event was The Ultimate Fighter season 8 contestant and local fighter made big Shane Primm taking on The Ultimate Fighter season 7 veteran Mike Dolce.

Primm in only his fourth pro fight and his first bout at middleweight took out the much more experienced Dolce with a first round TKO. PRO MMA(promma.info) spoke to Shane after the bout to get his thoughts on how things went down.

"The fight actually went a little different than I expected. I thought Dolce was going to come out early and press me, cut down the distance, and try to brawl given his reach disadvantage," said Primm. "He instead played on the outside which fit well into my game and my natural advantages."

Shane walked us through the fight, "I used a lot of body kicks towards his power hand to try and make him more cautious throwing his left hand, while trying to counter his right lead hook with my right overhand. It worked out well and he came in with a lead uppercut in which an overhand caught him square on the eye. It was a tough shot, I knew it when it happened, but at first thought he was ok. I saw his face change though and knew he was hurt, pressed it and he was hurt more than I thought. Apparently my right index knuckle had pounded his orbital bone and hurt him pretty badly. When he went to his knees I knew there was short time so I just threw everything I could to his chin. He tapped at the same time the ref jumped in to stop it."

Although Dolce had made a few comments before the fight saying he was going to knock Shane out, Shane said it was not personal, "No bad blood what so ever. That guy is a true professional. We got to cut up a bit back stage during the physicals and afterwards we also had good words."

Mike Dolce is well known within the MMA world for helping some of the sport's top fighters with their nutrition. The "Dolce Diet" is so popular even his opponents are into it. Shane plugged Mike's book, "That guy is a warrior and I have nothing but respect for him and wish him well in the future. Not to mention I'm gonna buy his nutrition book at mikedolcemma.com."

Before starring in television shows and training at Gracie Tampa, Shane Primm began cutting his MMA teeth at Guardian MMA just a few minutes southeast of Nashville and still has family and a ton of friends in the area. We asked Shane if he planned to stick around for awhile. "I'm gonna be in town hanging out with my family and just relaxing till Thursday," Shane said. "Then I have to get back to Tampa to help Joe "Bamboo" Wissmann and Chris Baten train for their upcoming fights. It is a team sport after all," he added.

Shane's next fight is not yet set, but he knows where he is headed and what he needs to do to get there. He explained, "For my goals it's pretty simple. Long term I want the 185 belt, but that is everyone's dream in their respective weight classes. Short term I want to get 7-9 fights in, then make a run in the UFC and make the statement that I don't just belong there, but I belong in the top guys at that weight class."

Shane is realistic about the process and knows it will take time. He stated, "That will be a good three years with Gracie Tampa though. So I'm just biding my time and working hard."

[Blog] DREAM 10: Welterweight Grand Prix Final Round airs live from Japan on HDNet July ...: If you have HDNet, then Monday morning July 20, you will be able to watch the final round of the DREAM welterweight grand prix. Beginning at 3:00 AM ET, DREAM 10 will broadcast live from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

PRO MMA (promma.info) will be up bright and early doing the live play-by-play commentary. So make a note to be here with us and follow along and interact with other fans as you watch the action.

The winner of Hayato Sakurai and Marius Zaronskis will take on the winner of Andre Galvao and Jason High to become the first ever DREAM Middleweight Champion.

In non-tournament action the number two ranked lightweight fighter in the world Shinya Aoki will be facing Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro.

Although both fighters are known for their extraordinary grappling ability and Aoki is a BJJ black belt, Ribeiro, who is a four time CBJJ Mundial winner, is on a whole other level. This match up has great potential to be fight of the night and it will be a real treat to watch for grappling and BJJ fans.

In other non-tournament action Paulo Filho will be making his return to the ring after his very first loss which took place last November at WEC 36 against Chael Sonnen. Filho clearly did not look like himself against Sonnen and there was some question regarding his mental stability at the time.

Hopefully Filho has gotten the help he needed and is back to form. He will need it as he goes up against the ultra tough Melvin Manhoef.  Manhoef is a very dangerous striker with 26 of his 36 wins coming by way of knockout. Filho's best chance will be to get this fight to the ground as soon as possible.

A late addition to the DREAM 10 card as we reported on Thursday is Ultimate Fighter veteran Jesse "JT Money" Taylor. Taylor is on a five-fight win-streak after being cut from the UFC following a loss to CB Dollaway at UFC Fight Night 14 in July 2008. He will be facing Don Sik Yoon who has lost his last two bouts.

Welterweight Tournament:
Final: Sakurai/Zaromskis vs. Galvao/High
Semi-final 1: Hayato Sakurai (35-8-2) vs. (9-2-0) Marius Zaromskis
Semi-final 2: Andre Galvao (3-0-0) vs. (7-1-0) Jason High
Reserve Fight: Seichi Ikemoto vs. (6-0-0) Tarec Saffiedine

Non-Tournament Fights:
(LW) Shinya Aoki (20-4-0) vs. (20-2-0) Vitor Ribeiro
(LW) Katsunori Kikuno (11-1-1) vs. (6-3-1) Andre "Dida" Amade

[Blog] Shane Primm prepares for July 18 bout with Mike Dolce - PRO MMA exclusive intervie...: This Saturday July 18, Music City MMA will host "Rock & Havoc"at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Headlining the card will be Ultimate Fighter veterans Shane Primm (2-1) of TUF 8 taking on Mike Dolce (4-6) of TUF 7.

Shane Primm began his mixed martial arts training in 2004 about 45 minutes southeast of Nashville, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. at Guardian MMA. He eventually turned pro, began training at Gracie Tampa, and was cast for The Ultimate Fighter season 8.

After losing his last bout back in December against the larger and much more experienced Krzysztof Soszynski at the TUF 8 Finale, Shane is moving down to middleweight for the first time. Shane will be looking to get back on track and what better place to do it than in front of his home crowd? PRO MMA (promma.info) recently caught up with Shane for a few questions.

PRO MMA: This is your first fight at 185, obviously with your height and natural size you should have a pretty good size advantage over many of your opponents as a middleweight. Have you seen noticeable improvements in speed, endurance, or any other attributes of your game at 185 as opposed to 205?
SHANE PRIMM:Seeing as I was fighting at 202 in the 205 division I didn't really have to diet to make 185. I did though. Cut out a lot of fat, worked on a lot of fast twitch exercises and cardio. Overall I feel great. As far as I know I'm the biggest 185er around, and that's much better than being by far the smallest 205er. I'm faster, stronger, and my cardio is excellent. I should have made this cut a long time ago.

PRO MMA:You are headlining the Music City MMA event this weekend against another TUF veteran in Mike Dolce. He is coming up to185 from 170. How do you think you match up with his strengths as a fighter?
SHANE PRIMM:I think its a good matchup for me. Standing, wrestling, and jits wise I feel I have an edge. He is good though so I'm prepared for a war, and to be honest I'm very excited about that.

PRO MMA: What was the number one thing that you walked away with following your time in the house on The Ultimate Fighter?
SHANE PRIMM: That I would never be able to survive in prison.

PRO MMA:You are from Murfreesboro, but have been training in Tampa with Rob Kahn at Gracie Tampa. Should we expect to see you fighting more in this area as MMA events are becoming more frequent with the recent legalization here in Tennessee, or do you have your sights set on getting back into a national organization?
SHANE PRIMM:I definitely am looking at getting back in the UFC, but I don't want to rush it. I want to get a good 6+ fights under my belt at 185 and make sure the next time I step in the UFC's Octagon, I make a statement. Tiiimmme is on my side...

PRO MMA: I know you have trained in the past with UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. What did you learn from your time training with him, and how did that training improve your game?
SHANE PRIMM: Honestly I stole a large amount of his game and incorporated it into my own. I'm not as fluid at it obviously as he is, but give me 4 years to work on that haha. Overall he showed me that you don't approach a fight like "I have to win" you go in there expecting to win, but your only real job is to perform to your ability. After that, it's fate.

PRO MMA:What do you consider to be your biggest improvements since the show's (TUF) finale?
SHANE PRIMM:I hate saying this but, everything. I'm three times the fighter I even thought I was back then. That has little to do with me too, I just showed up. The credit for that goes to all my trainers, Rob Kahn, Joe "Bamboo" Wissmann, Jeremy "Butter" Thurlow, and Dan Rawlings, and then all my training partners. With that said, I never guarantee wins, but I guarantee I'll bring my A game and fight my ass off and put on a good show. We are going to try to end this one early, and then, watch out Nashville.

PRO MMA: Is there anyone you want to thank or do you want to send any shout-outs?
SHANE PRIMM: I want to thank all my sponsors: Fighter Warehouse, Full Tilt Poker, Combat-IN-Effect, Aroundtheoctagon.com and of course you guys Denny and PRO MMA (promma.info), keep up the good work.

[Blog] Gewik Mousasi, older brother of Gegard Mousasi, set to compete in M-1 Challenge on Aug....: Amsterdam, Holland - For the past three years, Gewik Mousasi, older brother of former DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi, has focused on becoming one of Holland's best MMA trainers. Most recently, Mousasi has served as a coach for Team Benelux in the "M-1 Challenge Presented by Affliction."

However, on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Studio 22 in Hilversum, Holland (just outside of Amsterdam), Gewik will take on the unique role of player-coach as he returns to active competition as the heavyweight representative for Benelux when it faces Group C rival USA East. For those unable to attend live, Mousasi's fight will be televised live during M-1Global.com's live two-day Internet PPV stream (not available in the U.S. or Korea).

For Mousasi, it will be his first bout since a co-promoted M-1 and MFC show in April of 2006 featuring Russian fighters taking on European fighters. During the show, Mousasi lost his match against Besike Gerinava. The defeat ended a four fight win streak that included a notable win over current Team Finland heavyweight Toni Valtonen.

A submission specialist, Mousasi is answering the call to fight due to Jessie Gibbs, Benelux's regular heavyweight, being slated to fight Rob Broughton on the undercard of Affliction and M-1's "Trilogy" pay-per-view event on Aug. 1 in Anaheim, Calif. In stepping in for Gibbs, Mousasi will look to help lead his team to victory on its home turf and spoil USA East's hopes of qualifying for the 2009 M-1 Challenge post-season.

While USA East works to finalize its roster for Aug. 15, Team Benelux has submitted its full lineup to M-1 Challenge officials. In addition to Mousasi, lightweight Danny van Bergen, welterweight Raymond Jarman, middleweight Richard Plug, and light heavyweight Jason Jones are all slated to compete for Benelux.

Jarman will be fighting in the M-1 Challenge for the first time since his devastating knockout victory in Sau Paulo, Brazil this past May in which he dropped Bulgaria's Ivan Ivanov just 35 seconds into their bout. The quick KO earned Jarman "Knockout of the Night" honors.

Van Bergen and Jones also competed for Benelux on the same show, but suffered difficult losses. After recording a unanimous decision victory over Finland's Juha-Pekka Vainikainen during the M-1 Challenge '09 season opener this past February, van Bergen lost via submission to Yanko Yanev in Brazil. Meanwhile, Jones is on the comeback trail after suffering consecutive losses in '09 following a 2008 season in which he established himself as one of the M-1 Challenge's first breakout stars.

In addition to Mousasi's return after an extended absence from competition, Plug, 8-4-1, will be fighting for the first time since 2004. An assistant trainer at M-1's training facility in Amsterdam, Plug was recently added to the Benelux roster as a replacement for Danny Smit.

The best-of-five series between USA East and Benelux will serve as the headlining team challenge of a 15-bout card that will kick off a two-day "MMA Extravaganza" in Holland that will feature a total of 30 M-1 Challenge bouts from Aug. 15-16. Tickets are now available at the official website for M-1, www.M-1Global.... -*http://promma.info/index.php/2009/07/14/gewik-mousasi-older-brother-of-gegard-mousasi-set-to-compete-in-m-1-challenge-on-aug-15/
